The pointed toes of Jessica Hoyt, a dance student at Studio C in Huntsville, cast a subtle shadow on the light floor of the studio as she follows the instruction of Christy Waites. Waites owns and instructs at Studio C, she previously performed with the Houston Ballet Company and The Woodlands Ballet Company.
500th Texas execution

Jean Wilkins Dember, right, protests the execution of Kimberly McCarthy on Wednesday outside the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Huntsville Unit, where the death chamber is located. McCarthy became the 500th person executed in Texas since the state resumed carrying out the death penalty in 1982. Football season picks up

Clayton Swor of the New Waverly Bulldogs reaches for his helmet as the varsity team took the field at New Waverly High School for their final scrimmage before their season opener next Friday. Swor is the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. Look for the 2012 Football Preview magazine in Wednesday’s paper for more information on this year’s football season. The preview includes the New Waverly Bulldogs, Huntsville Hornets, Alpha Omega Lions and SHSU Bearkats.
A little defeat goes a long way

This is a photo I just entered in a nation wide contest for press photographers. This was taken at the end of the Bearkats’ amazing run in January. They remained undefeated throughout the season until their shot at a national championship in Frisco, TX.
